Message From The President

Welcome to the Lambda Pi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.!

I am Kaiya M. Smith, the Chapter President, and I am delighted to welcome you to our beautiful new website. Here, you will find valuable information about our rich history, impactful programs, exciting events, and much more. Whether you are a GVSU student, an alumna, a community partner, or simply interested in learning more about our sorority and chapter, we are thrilled to have you visit our online home.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was founded in 1913 by twenty-two visionary women at Howard University, committed to promoting academic excellence and social action. The Lambda Pi Chapter was chartered at Grand Valley State University on June 18, 1974, the first sorority and Black Letter Greek organization to be chartered on the campus. For fifty years, we have fostered an inclusive environment, uplifting our community and addressing the diverse needs of our student body.

As we prepare to celebrate our 50th anniversary this year, I am especially excited to serve as the Chapter President. Our chapter’s history and longevity is a testament to the strength and dedication of our members. Our events are centered around our sorority’s five-point programmatic thrust, which includes educational development, economic empowerment, international awareness, physical and mental health, and political involvement. We host a variety of events throughout the year, such as our study tables, Tighten Up Thursdays, Delta Week, and more.

As you explore our website, we hope you gain a deeper understanding of who we are and the impact we strive to make. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please reach out. We are eager to connect with individuals who share our passion for sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action.

Thank you for visiting!
